A WELL known Letterkenny pub is to get a huge mural dedicated to families caught up in the mica crisis.
The painting will adorn the gable wall of McGinley’s Bar and is being commissioned by local collective The A-rt Team.
It will be The A-rt Team’s sixth project but only its second large scale mural. The first was painted last year on the side of Burrito Loco by artist Ciaran Dunlevy.
The team has yet to decide on a design for the mica-themed mural and is inviting the public to submit their ideas.
A-rt Team spokesperson Finnian O’Donnell said, “We received some funding from Donegal Local Development Company and one of our members proposed the idea of a mica-themed artwork.
“We all agreed because of what is going on and the deflation that people are feeling around the mica issue at the moment. We felt that if we could play our small part in highlighting what has been happening and giving people a boost then we should,” he said.
“But we also felt that the mica situation has not been highlighted in Letterkenny maybe as much as it has in other parts of the county despite there being lots of houses in Letterkenny with it. So this is our way of giving people a voice and letting them know that we stand with them.”
Anyone can apply to have their idea considered and once a design has been chosen it will be transferred into mural size by a professional artist.
The closing date for submissions is July 24. Go to The A-rt Team Facebook page for more details on how to get involved.
