The late Billy Ramsay.
A SERVICE of Thanksgiving took place in Letterkenny on Wednesday afternoon for Billy Ramsay, Ballyraine, whose death at his home earlier this week has been met by sadness among his family and many friends.
A very well known and highly respected member of the local community, Billy was a proud Letterkenny man who during his lifetime, was involved in a host of local groups and organisations.
His contribution to his home town was recalled at his Service of Thanksgiving in Trinity Presbyterian Church, Letterkenny on Wednesday afternoon.
Chief celebrant Rev Tommy Bruce said Billy, who was 91, had been a valued member of the church community and was a popular neighbour and friend to so many.
A native of Kiltoy, Billy’s first employment was with Charles Kelly Ltd in Letterkenny where over time he would become General Manager.
He later set up his own business providing PVC windows and a quantity surveying service.
Away from work, he had many interests and was a talented footballer, playing with Letterkenny Rovers.
He was also a keen golfer and enjoyed the company of his many friends around the fairways of Barnhill in Letterkenny. Indeed up until recent years, he had a regular four-ball and was an active member of Letterkenny Golf Club.
He was also involved with the local Tidy Towns association and many years ago, was among those to lead the development of Letterkenny Community Centre.
At Wednesday’s service, Billy’s sons Wesley and Clive thanked all those who have offered support and sympathy following their dad’s passing.
They said family was so important to their father, and he had been a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Two of Billy’s grandchildren, Holly and Alex, provided the readings.
Prayers were also offered for Robert Love, Ramelton who died last weekend, and Doris Kearney, Kerrykeel who died last August. Robert and Doris were the brother and sister of Billy’s wife, Margaret.
Committal took place afterwards in Gortlee Cemetery.
Billy is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, sons, Wesley and Clive, daughter, Amanda, daughter-in-law, Jacinta, grandchildren, Alex, Jack, Adam, Holly, William and James and great-granddaughter Robyn.
