A NEW sensory room which is equipped with interactive and integrated lighting, visual and sound effects was officially opened upstairs in Ionad Naomh Pádraig, Gaoth Dobhair last Thursday.
The room was officially opened by Ann Marie Crosse, Sláintecare, Healthy Communities Co-Ordinator.
The blessing of the new room was performed by Fr. Brian Ó Fearraigh, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair.
The new room is called ‘Faoiseamh’.
Máire Uí Chomhaill, Manager of Ionad Naomh Pádraig said the new facility will cater for all age groups and it is free of charge.
She said: “In our Strategic Plan for 2020-2028 we made an appeal to the public for ideas of new facilities they would like to be set up in the centre.
“This sensory room is the result of that appeal.”
She thanked Sláintecare for all their help with the new facility and for standing with them from start to finish.
She also thanked the staff of the centre and especially the men for all their hard work.
She also thanked the Gaoth Dobhair based artist Fran O’Boyle for the stunning images he created on the walls of the room, they are a big hit with the children.
“The room which has calming, stimulating, and integrated lighting, sound and vibroacoustic arrangements will be great for people to suit their sensory needs and to unwind on comfortable furniture,” Ms Uí Chomhaill continued.
“Studies have shown that sensory rooms can help improve focus, and reduce stress,” she said.
Among the other speakers were Fr. Brian Ó Fearraigh and Ann Marie Crosse, who said the new sensory room will make a massive change to this area.
