FORMER Donegal star Brendan Devenney feels that Donegal are going to have to adopt a more defensive approach if they are to start picking up results this season.
Devenney is a long-time advocate for attacking football and was critical of Donegal’s play at stages over the last ten years when he felt they could have played a more expansive style.
However, he doesn’t think the county has the natural defenders at present to do so.
“I hate to say it but I think we are going to have to tighten up defensively.
“It’s tough on the new management because there has been shades of this problem for a few years now but we just don’t have a Neil McGee at the back anymore or a Chrissy McKaigue.
“There’s no point in bemoaning it because the boys we have in the backline are good honest players but they’re struggling to do the man-on-man defending and we knew this was coming. We’re wide open at the moment.”
