A SITTING councillor who has a strong work ethic, is honest and a passion and track record for getting work done in his local community was how Independent county councillor Michael McBride was described this week.

Cllr McBride (47), from Kilmacrennan, launched his election campaign in the local parish hall on Sunday night and up to 300 people from the locality turned out to show their support.

“My promise to the people is to give them 100 per cent commitment if I’m elected again,” he said.

“This is not my seat, this is our seat,” Cllr McBride said to a rousing standing ovation.

Co-opted onto the council in 2009, Cllr McBride said he was really looking forward to the challenge of this election in May.

“It would mean a lot to me to be elected on my own merits. It is going to be a different election. The Town Councils are to be abolished and replaced with a Municipal District encompassing ten councillors instead of seven,” he said.

“To get a seat, I need your help. This election will be different. The quota in the last was around 2,400, but this time I expect it to be around 1,700. This is achievable, but we have to work to get every single vote out,’ Cllr McBride stressed.

The M.C for the launch was Cllr McBride’s friend, Mr Gerard Grant, President of Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce, said Cllr McBride was a ‘quiet man, but worked tirelessly for local clubs, societies and groups in the area’.

Also in attendance were Independent Cllr Frank McBrearty and election candidate, Christy Galligan.
