‘A good day for the parish’ – Termon’s Jodie McFadden

Termon star Jodie McFadden says their Division 1 title win is ‘a great day for the parish’ that they will celebrate but their focus is already switched to the Donegal LGFA Senior Football Championship.

The Burn Road side retained their league title at MacCumhaill Park on Sunday with a 3-12 to 1-5 win over Naomh Conaill.

And while they celebrated the win, they are already looking ahead to the beginning of the championship.

Both sides kicked a handful of wides early on but it was Termon who took an early lead and went into the half-time break six points up.

McFadden then scored two of Termon’s three second half goals as they pulled away from the Glenties side to win comfortably by thirteen points.

“Very happy today,” McFadden told the Donegal News after the game.

“Only coming back from the county it’s nice to join the girls and for one of the first games to be back, being in a final is great.

“We’re happy to be here and we’ll celebrate tonight and look forward to the championship in the coming weeks.

“We missed a few wides and it’s something we’ll need to work on back on the playing field and we’ll do that.

“But Naomh Conaill were definitely there from the start and we just had to push on and that’s exactly what we done and we were happy to pull away from them.

“Any day you score a goal or even to get on the scoreboard it’s a good day so I’m happy to score and it’s a good day for the parish.”

Termon have been relentless on their title charges in the past 12 months.

They won this league title last year with a win over Glenfin, while they beat the same opponents in the Senior Championship final via 25 metre frees in October.

And earlier this year they won the regional and National Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta.

But for McFadden, the priority now is the championship once again, as they look to retain their title.

Termon have been put in a group with Buncrana, Moville and St Eunan’s, with a derby game away to the Letterkenny side up first on the weekend of August 19/20.

“Hopefully we’ll continue to keep winning. Look, to win the Gaeltacht, then the All-Ireland Gaeltacht and then here has been brilliant.

“But the main one is Championship and we’ll look forward to that and see where the road takes us.”
