FINN Harps goalkeeper Corey Sheridan is hoping that they can carry their momentum through to this Friday’s trip to Limerick to face Treaty United in the First Division.
Finn Harps were in action last Friday night where they recorded an important 1-0 victory over Kerry FC at Finn Park.
It was a finely balanced affair for the most part, but Finn Harps pushed on in the closing quarter, and a superb delivery from Gavin McAteer was met by the head of Max Hutchinson, who netted a last-gasp winner.
Having beaten Bray Wanderers on home soil the Monday prior, it was important for Kevin McHugh’s side to back this up with a second straight win and Sheridan expressed that it was a big boost for the group.
“Yeah, especially with the run that we were on, the two wins are big. If we can beat Treaty United now at the weekend then it would be even better but we’ll take each game as it comes and hopefully we can keep going the way that we’re going.”
The Navenny Street club have recovered well in recent times from a difficult month of April where they failed to record a league victory.
Despite not coming out on the winning side during this six-match run, Kevin McHugh’s side produced a number of positive displays that would have left them feeling they deserved more.
This feeling was shared by Sheridan who knew that his side’s fortunes would turn for the better sooner rather than later.
“I thought we were unlucky with most results, I thought we could’ve nicked a few wins or even draws. But that’s how football goes, you’ve to bide your time if you’re in a bad patch like that. It’ll always turn around at some stage.”
The Ballyshannon native enjoyed a good start to the campaign for the Finn Park residents before suffering an injury which saw him ruled out for a number of weeks.
It was a blow for the young netminder, with the injury also ruling him out for the Republic of Ireland Under 19 squad last month.
However, he returned to the Finn Harps starting lineup for the meetings with Bray Wanderers and Kerry FC, performing well, and he’s pleased to be back in action.
“Getting injured is tough, especially when it’s for about five weeks like I was. You just keep doing your rehab and I knew that I’d be back stronger than I was so I’m happy to be back now.”
Next up for Kevin McHugh’s men is a trip to Limerick this Friday night for a meeting with Treaty United.
Tommy Barrett’s outfit are coming into this encounter off the back of a draw with Athlone Town last time out but they are sat bottom of the First Division table.
With back-to-back victories under their belt, Finn Harps will have the wind in their sails when they travel to Limerick this Friday and Sheridan is hopeful that they can make the journey home with three points for their efforts.
“We’re up for the Treaty game, we think that we can come away with the three points and there’s no reason why we can’t get the three points.
“We’ll take it as it comes and we’ll see how it is on the day. I’d be confident going into this Friday that we can take all three points.”
