LETTERKENNY native Susan Kenny is calling on her community to turn daffodil yellow on Daffodil Day, March 20, to raise vital funds and give hope to cancer patients.
Ms Kenny was one of many who travelled to Dublin last week for the Irish Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day Supporters’ Launch at Croke Park, where she was joined by broadcaster and Daffodil Day launch MC Miriam O’Callaghan and Edel Shovlin, Acting CEO of the Irish Cancer Society.
Speaking at the launch, Ms Shovlin said this year alone, 44,000 people will be diagnosed with cancer in Ireland.
“There isn’t a family that hasn’t felt the devastating impact of a cancer diagnosis,” she said.
“But no matter what cancer brings, the Irish Cancer Society is here to help.
“All of our essential services, like free counselling, Daffodil Centres, Night Nursing, and patient travel are fuelled by fundraising.
“It’s also thanks to the generosity of the public that we can fund groundbreaking cancer research to help develop kinder, gentler treatments, with the aim of achieving our ambition of a future where no one dies from cancer.
“The more we raise on Daffodil Day, the more we can do.
“The more help we can give to children and adults going through cancer, the more lifesaving research we can fund, and the sooner we can ensure all cancer survivors have the support they need to live life to the full.”
Daffodil Day takes place on Friday, March 20.
