Donegal Junior League to welcome seven new teams

THE Donegal Junior League have confirmed that their numbers will be bumped up to 60 teams from the beginning of next season across three Sunday Leagues and three Saturday Leagues, so long as they meet the conditions set.

Seven new Saturday teams will join the league, including a Bonagee United and Letterkenny Rovers Saturday team, with both clubs moving fully back to Junior football as the Ulster Senior League comes to an end.

Erne Wanderers have also returned to the league, while Fanad United, Gweedore United, Drumkeen United and Lagan Harps are the other clubs to have reserve sides accepted.

With the current league format being 12 and 11 teams in the Saturday divisions, it may cause a headache on the format for the next season, with last year’s promotion and relegation uncertain to stay with the same, but the Executive will propose options to the clubs who will vote on the best fit.

“There are conditions set for these seven new clubs coming in and we’re hoping they’ll all be happy with that and if it’s the case we’ll have 30 entrants and three leagues of ten,” Nigel Ferry, Secretary of the Donegal Junior League told the Donegal News.
