A fund-raising football match for the family of a young Ramelton man killed in a work accident earlier this year has raised almost €4,000.
The charity football match, which was staged at Swilly Park in Ramelton on Saturday past, featured a squad of Swilly Rovers Legends against a more youthful Ramelton Mariners XI.
The event was in aid of the family of Terry Toland (41) who tragically died as a result of a work related incident in Galway in January.
Mr Toland is survived by his partner Rosemary Byrne and four children, one boy Jay and three young girls Brenna, Quinn and Adelene.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Terry’s father Kevin paid tribute to Danny Cullen and the other organisers of the event. The match referee was Con McLaughlin, himself a former League of Ireland legend.
“The game was played in good spirits and the slagging-off was much to the fore. There was a large crowd present and a there was a lot of good players. In total fifty-lads played.
“To the men who were prominent in the running of the event, all the players who played, all the businesses and individuals who sponsored prizes for the ticket draws and especially the people of the town, and outside, Terry looking down would be proud,” Mr Toland said.
Terry is survived by his partner, children, his parents Kevin and Kathleen, his two brothers Brian (USA) and Joe (Australia), sisters Joanne Coyle and Shauna, other relatives and wide circle of family friends.
“The money raised will hopefully ensure that Terry’s family are all able to enjoy a good Christmas,” he added.
