500 cars already seized this year

BY CRONAN SCANLON
Sergeant Iggy Larkin of the Donegal Traffic Corps told the Donegal News that he stumbled across the staggering figures while doing research for a recent radio interview.

These cars, vans and motorbikes were seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act for being either uninsured, untaxed or driven by an underage person.
Sergeant Larkin said a lot the cars impounded would also have been Northern Ireland and UK registered or had no NCT.

“When I looked at the figures first, I could see that 50 cars were seized in all of Donegal in January. However, when I done a search on the Letterkenny Division, I was surprised to discover that almost 500 cars have been seized in the first eight months of this year,” Sergeant Larkin said.
