30th Scoil Gheimhridh  Ghaoth Dobhair opens in style

It’s 30 years since Clann Uí Mhaonaigh and friends founded  Scoil Gheimhridh Frankie Kennedy and Comharchumann Forbartha Ghaoth  Dobhair are now organising the popular event.

This year, Scoil Gheimhridh will be remembering and celebrating Frankie in a special concert ‘Flutopia’ presented by  the Belfast Trad Fest  as well as a special concert with Altan in which he was a founding member alongside Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh.

The organisers have an incredible programme of events featuring renowned artists such as Altan, The Friel Sisters, An Crann Óg, Breandán Ó Beaglaoich, Gary Hastings, Máire Ní Choilm and many more. In addition to the concerts there will also be session trails, album launches, and workshops in music, song, and dance from some of the best performers in Ireland.

One of the highlights of the Scoil Gheimhridh will be the annual New Year’s Eve Hooley in the Social, Strand Road, Middletown, Derrybeg  featuring the Joe Jack Attack and special guests.  This event is the perfect way to unwind and welcome in the New Year in style with family and friends.

This year’s Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair continues through until Tuesday, December 31. Venues include Pobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair, Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair, The Social and Teach Hiudaí Beag.
