DONEGAL’S Ulster U21 Championship ambitions are over for another year after they were beaten by Tyrone in last night’s quarter-final at Healy Park.

Tyrone were much more economical than Maxi Curran’s charges on the night.

The Red Hands, eleven-point winners over Fermanagh in a preliminary round tie last week, deserved their win, though there was a regretful mood in the Donegal camp after the game.

It was only in the second-half that Donegal managed to get into any sort of a rhythm, with a forward line that included seniors Patrick McBrearty, Dermot Molloy and Martin O’Reilly starved of possession for long periods.

It took Donegal 27 minutes to get on the scoreboard through Molloy, with Tyrone five up by that stage.

Despite their failings in the first-half, Donegal still managed to stay within striking distance and they squandered a number of second-half chances that on another night could have pulled them even closer.
