A GARDA investigation has been launched after a break in at Finn Park, Ballybofey, last week resulted in the toilets at the ground being vandalised.
‘Substantial’ damage was caused to the portacabin on the Gantry Terrace of the ground, which is divided into male and female toilets. The dividing wall was broken through and extensive damage caused to the contents of the portacabin.
The vandalism was spotted by stewards as they carried out their customary pre-match checks in the build up to the First Division match between Finn Harps and Galway FC last Saturday night.
The matter was reported to An Garda Siochana.
While no estimation has been put on the repair bill, it is said that Harps face ‘substantial’ costs.
“It is hard to understand why someone would do this,” said Harps Board member Aidan Campbell.
“It is very disappointing. It’s strange that someone would target Finn Park like this.
“This is something that couldn’t have been done by a child. There was clearly a level of intent and aggression here. We were shocked when we first looked at it. I was just thinking: ‘My goodness, why?’ These people really went out of their way to do this. There was a lot of force used.”
