If you’re interested in traditional music, Tionscnamh Lugh should be your first point of contact. With past Trad Trathnona concerts having featured the likes of Liz Carroll, Mairtin O’Connor, Steve Cooney, Capercaillie’s Karen Matheson, Donald Shaw, Manus Lunny, Sharon Shannon, Paul Brady and local heroes Altan.

Ian Smith, Tionscnamh Lugh, said: “We are a not for profit organisation, and love what we do, people understand we promote high quality at a reasonable cost to our audiences.

“If we didn’t bring the best high quality acts to the Gaeltacht region, who else would? That’s what keeps us going strong. Tionscnamh Lugh are very grateful for the support of the Arts Council in recent years, particularly the traditional arts section.”

So don’t ask who Tionscnamh Lugh are, go to any of their Trad Trathnona sessions. This year, you could see Donal Lunny, Paddy Glackin, Lumiere, Ciaran Tourish, Cathal Hayden, Arty McGlynn, Dermot Byrne, Floriane Blanke, Paddy Keenan, Mary Ann Kennedy, Gerry O’Connor, and many more every Tuesday in July and August.

While the best known of traditional artists share the stage with the best local artists you will also find children’s art classes running at the centre, not forgetting the Tional Na bPiobairi concert in conjunction with Loinneog Lunasa, on Saturdary, August 10, and a special once-off Trad Trathnona to celebrate the Gallagher Clan Global Gathering on Tuesday, September 10.
