GAELSCOIL Adhamhnáin in Letterkenny will celebrate 20 years of educating students through the Irish language this year.
The school opened its doors to its first 26 pupils in September 1991 when it was originally located in the VEC building at Ard O’Donnell under its first Principal Bernadette Ní Aingleis.
The school flourished and moved to its purpose built facility in Glencar in September 2000.
Speaking to the Donegal News this week Principal Máire Nic Gairbhe-Uí Bhaoill, who took over in 1994, said this year is a huge milestone in the school with a twentieth anniversary celebration taking place on October 1, 2011.
“We would be delighted to see as many of our past pupils and their parents as possible join us for these celebrations. The occasion will be marked by activities in the school for the present pupils. On Saturday, October 1, Mass will be celebrated in the Cathedral at 5.30pm and afterwards at 7 pm a social function will take place in the Clanree Hotel. We will be delighted to welcome especially past pupils, parents and former staff members.
“We would welcome old photographs, newspaper articles relating to the earlier years of the school. All photographs and articles will be returned. Please contact the school if you have anything of interest 074 9126117,” Ms Nic Gairbhe-Uí Bhaoill said.
