ELECTION 2024: Emotional day for Donal Mandy as tallies predict he could top the poll

FIANNA FÁIL candidate Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly has said he is overwhelmed by today’s tally results which show’s he could potentially top the poll in the Letterkenny area.

Cllr Kelly was co-opted onto Donegal County Council three and a half years ago.

Speaking to the Donegal News in the Aura Leisure Centre today, Cllr Kelly said he is ecstatic.

“I always work hard on each and every single issue.

“I have worked hard for the people of Mica homes and I will be focusing on that again for the next five years, our housing issues that we have here throughout the county and our infrastructure here in Letterkenny.

“We need to deliver the Ten T Project, we need to deliver the Bonagee Link and that is just to name a few.

“I have worked hard with people with disabilities and people with mental health.

“I want to continue to work on behalf of them because there is services there but they aren’t up to scratch.

“I am not naïve, I know there is a lot of work that has to be done and I am eager.

“This work won’t start in a week or two weeks time, it will start from tomorrow if I am officially elected,” he said.

If elected, Cllr Kelly will be following in the footsteps of his late brother Manus ‘Mandy’ Kelly.

“We were here five years ago and lifted my late brother Manus Mandy Kelly up in here,” he said.

“It has been an emotional rollercoaster without a doubt, not just for me but for my family and the whole team.

“But, we have reaped the reward here.

“I know he’ll be looking down and he’d be proud,” he concluded.
