VINTNERS from across Ireland are gathering in Ballybofey today for their annual conference
President of the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland (VFI) John Clendennen said there are many challenges and opportunities facing their members with rising costs a major issue for pub owners.
The conference is taking place in Jackson’s Hotel in Ballybofey and many in the industry around Donegal are attending.
“Our choice of Donegal for this year’s AGM is no coincidence,” John Clendennen said.
“Pubs in Donegal, as in other parts of Ireland, are more than just places to enjoy a pint. They are the heartbeats of their communities -spaces where locals gather to unwind, share stories, celebrate, and support one another.
“They host everything from spontaneous music sessions that enliven the spirit to charity events that demonstrate profound communal solidarity.
“This year, our meeting focuses on how vital these establishments are to the social fabric of towns and villages across the country.
“In places like Donegal, pubs are often the main hub of social activity, essential in combating rural isolation and maintaining the rich tapestry of Irish community life. They contribute not just to the local economy but also to the social wealth of the nation.”
