GARDAÍ investigating the theft of a memorial plaque and wreath from the grave of an RUC constable in Castlefin have made a fresh appeal for information.
The memorial plaque and wreath were stolen from the grave of John Doherty (31), who is laid to rest in St Mary’s Cemetery.
Mr Doherty was murdered 50 years ago while visiting his mother in Ballindrait, near Lifford.
He was the first member of the RUC to be murdered in the Republic of Ireland during the Troubles.
Mr Doherty’s brother Terry told the Donegal News last week that the family would not be placing another stone on the grave so as not to give those responsible the chance to steal again.
The black marble memorial plaque and a wreath were stolen from a grave in the cemetery some time between Saturday, November 4 at 8.45pm and midday the following day.
A garda spokesperson said: “We appeal to anybody who may have relevant information in relation to this incident to make contact with Gardaí in Letterkenny on (074) 9167100 or to contact the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111.”
