DONEGAL North East TD, Joe McHugh, has said that employees of banks that have received a bail-out and contingency funding from Irish taxpayers should be bound by the Civil Service Code.
Speaking today, Deputy McHugh stated: “The Civil Service Code of Standards and Behaviour, as set out in July 1997, notes that the mission of the Civil Service is the achievement of an excellent service for Government and the other institutions of State, as well as for the public as citizens and users of public services, based on principles of integrity, impartiality, effectiveness, equity and accountability.
He continued: “Employees of all institutions and agencies in this State which are funded by Irish citizens should be bound by this Code of Standards and Behaviour.”
Deputy McHugh concluded: “This ought to include financial institutions that have received bail-outs and contingency funding from Irish taxpayers until such a time as the State’s share in the banks is sold and they are standing again on their own two feet.”
