RANNAFAST woman Elaine Boyle has swam in the sea at Boat Strand near Carrickfin for the past 84 days without a break, in her bid to make it 100 days straight and raise money for a very worthy local cause.
Elaine will complete her one hundredth day in a row swim on February 9 and there will be lots of supporters there to celebrate her achievement.
Speaking to the Donegal News this week Elaine explained that she would stay in the sea for between six and twelve minutes each day all to raise funds for the Dungloe Community Hospital Patient Comfort Fund.
“Towards the end of last year when I was out swimming I thought I would love to do 100 days to benefit the community hospital which looks after the comfort of the long-term patients in Dungloe. There are not too many families in the greater Rosses area who would not have had someone in that hospital for end of life care, respite or other. The staff there do amazing work. I know because my late Granny Mariah Boyle was there and the care she got was unbelievable. She always looked like a queen, her hair was done and they were so good to all their patients,” Elaine said.
The Rannafast woman has been sea swimming since childhood after her father taught her to swim. She got in touch with Charlie The Yank Boyle and the team who sea swim there and she began again on February 1 last year.
Elaine is a pharmacy manager at Total Health in Annagry and anyone wanting to donate can drop in there to do so or use the GoFundme page at https://www.gofundme.com/f/dungloe-hospital-patient-comfort-fund. To date €2,730 has been donated on the page.
The Donegal News will have coverage of Elaine’s one hundredth swim after tomorrow week’s plunge.
