School students assaulted in Stranorlar on way home

An investigation has been launched after three male students were assaulted in an unprovoked attack on their way home from school.

Gardai are investigating the incident, which occurred in Stranorlar on Tuesday, February 28 between 4pm and 4.15pm.

The incident was recorded and gardai are in possession of the footage.

The students were walking from school together to catch their bus and they turned off the Main Street onto a laneway that links with Railway Road. The school bus usually parks along Railway Road or the Mart Road, as it is otherwise known. The laneway in question is next to the pedestrian lights near the bus station. The three students were followed by a group of male youths who launched an unprovoked attack on them while they were in the laneway.

The three students sustained injuries, none of which are life-threatening.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the incident to contact gardai in Letterkenny on (074) 91 67100 or confide in their parents or teacher if they are a minor.

Gardai are also appealing to road users who travelled on the Main Street or on Railway Road around the time in question and who had a dash cam, to make the footage available to them.

They appealed to parents to speak with their children in relation to the seriousness of this type of behaviour, and in relation to the potential life-changing consequences it could have for them or others involved.
