Live stand-up returns to Letterkenny this week

LIVE stand-up comedy makes a welcome return to Letterkenny tomorrow evening.

The Brewery Bar will host the first ‘Letterkenny Laughs’ on Wednesday night with the hope that it will become a regular feature on the local entertainment calendar.

Among those set to take the stage are Darren McCay, Claire Corrigan, Ciaran Flanagan and headline act Fintan Harvey.

Master of ceremonies will be Sion Mills man Terry Hood. Terry was a regular on the Letterkenny stand-up circuit for several years but put it aside due to their being no consistent comedy platform in the area.

In more recent times he has put his acting talents to good use and is currently on stage as part of two hit shows – Orange is the New Green and Sorry For Your Loss.

Terry Hood will be master of ceremonies for the evening of craic.

While a constant in Ireland’s cities, stand-up has been less seen and heard elsewhere. It has however enjoyed a revival of late in towns and villages with a flood of new stars putting themselves front and centre. Among them Strabane’s Rory Woods, Omagh’s Conor Keys and others including Ronan Boyle and Eamon McElwee.

“I’ll be compère for Letterkenny Laughs and the plan is to run it every few weeks for the foreseeable future,” said Terry.

“It’s an opportunity for people to let their hair down and get back to enjoying life instead of the doom and gloom of the last few years with Covid and away from everything that is happening in the world at the moment.”

Letterkenny Laughs is on Wednesday November 16 and doors open at 7pm. Tickets are €15, available from
