Letterkenny Baptist Church has re-launched ‘Free Soup Friday’ last week.
The initiative aims to reach out to those in the community who need a warm meal or equally as important, the warmth of friendship.
Pastor Stephen Wilson of Letterkenny Baptist Church explained that the service is available to anyone who wants to drop in, and receive “a very warm welcome”.
Volunteers from the church are involved, making soup, sandwiches, tea and coffee.
He emphasised the social element of the initiative and how it’s about “meeting people and reaching people”.
Pastor Stephen said, “We realise that these are difficult days for people, so we just wanted to offer a little something that could help”.
Pastor Stephen also acknowledged that people’s circumstances may be different, “people are welcome to come in and have a coffee and chat, or they can grab something and go on with their day”.
Free Soup Friday will run weekly throughout the winter months from 12-2pm in the Open Door Centre on the Port Road (at the Tesco roundabout).
The Church also offer emergency food packs for “anybody who needs a helping hand”.
