The Letterkenny CDP has announced it is providing a free counselling service for the people of Letterkenny and surrounding areas.
The Letterkenny CDP was established to address the identified needs of disadvantaged target groups who wished to improve their lives.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Voluntary Manager of the project Margaret Toner said they have a student counsellor working with them to get her full qualification.
“She is doing general counselling so there is no set criteria.
“She has quite a few clients at the minute but she has some space left, but not a lot.
“She comes to Letterkenny CDP Office in the Courtyard Shopping Centre in the evenings when they are closed and she uses an empty office so her service is completely confidential,” she said.
As the counsellor is a student, assessment forms are sent out on enquiry as Letterkenny CDP have to ensure she is not getting clients she does not have the remit to work with.
When the assessment form is filled out it goes directly to the Counsellor, making the appliciation process totally confidential.
The appointment will then be made.
With positive feedback so far it has been a very successful and beneficial service.
Margaret said one benefit of having this counselling service is that people who are on waiting lists for other counselling services can attend this one until their appointment comes up.
“It is good for the client and it is good for the project.
“We also have another programme here where we work alongside outreach workers to provide a drugs and drink programme.
“However, this service brings in other issues that are not related to provide that extra bit of help to people,” she said.
There are currently sessions available during the week in the early evening and on Saturday mornings. This service is being offered to adults over the age of 18 only.
If you would like to find out more information about this service or apply contact Margaret Toner on 0868262330 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
