Man remains in hospital after assault in Letterkenny

Gardaí in Letterkenny are investigating an assault that occurred on the High Road, Letterkenny (near the entrance to the New Line Road) on Sunday, June 5, shortly before 11.20pm.
Gardaí were on patrol when they observed an injured man laying on the footpath at that location and a number of people had gathered to try to assist him.
An ambulance was contacted and the man was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital. He remains in hospital receiving treatment. It is believed that the assault occurred on the road itself. As part of their investigation,
Gardaí are interested in any sightings of a man in the area around the time who was described as having a dark complexion, being approximatley  5 ft 6 inches tall, of thin build, in his late teens, short dark hair on the back and sides but with curly hair on the top and he had no facial hair. He was wearing a black t-shirt. This man is believed to have been in the company of a female who wore a white jacket, black trousers and top and she had long black hair.
The man is believed to have left the scene following the assault and travelled on foot up the High Road in the direction of the Hospital roundabout. We appeal to anybody who witnessed the assault or who observed the male as described in the area around that time to contact Gardaí in Letterkenny on 074-9167100.
A garda spokesperson said: “We also appeal to anybody who travelled on the High Road between 11pm and 11.45pm and who had a dash cam, to make the footage available to Gardaí.”
The Garda Confidential line may be reached on 1800 666 111.
“We have been made aware that a male nurse stopped at the scene to provide assistance and we would appreciate if he could make contact with Gardaí in Letterkenny.”
