Over 200 tested for Covid-19 a day

THERE were almost 1,500 Covid-19 tests carried out at the Letterkenny test centre last week as case numbers surge once again.
The latest figures from the HSE show that on average 200 people were tested a day as testing figures have jumped by thirty per cent since the start of March at St Conal’s test centre.
In total 1,678 tests were carried out in the county last week up to Sunday with 201 tests at the Cleary Centre in Donegal Town.
This is up from 1,567 tests carried out at the two test centres the previous week.
Covid-19 levels at Letterkenny University Hospital remain high with 84 patients with the virus as of Wednesday evening. Twelve of those cases had been confirmed in the previous 24 hours and there was one patient in intensive care at that time.
There were also high numbers waiting on beds in the hospital again this week.
Some 54 people were awaiting a bed this morning, 37 of them on trolleys in the emergency department.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) has called for a ministerial intervention to tackle the trolley crisis.
