A RAPHOE woman who lost an arm in a horrific road accident says she is “blessed and humbled” by the outpouring of support that has been shown to her.
Mother-of-two Evette Woods added that she was “thankful to be alive” following the crash on the main Letterkenny to Lifford road last Saturday.
Ms Woods was airlifted to Galway University Hospital following the single vehicle collision. But despite the efforts of medics, her arm had to be amputated from the from the elbow down.
Due to the severity of her injuries, a fundraising appeal has been set up to help adapt Evette’s home while the majority of the funds will be used towards a prosthetic hand.
The Go Fund Me page set up by friends and family of the hairdresser following her accident has so far raised almost €6,000.
Ms Woods told the Donegal News that while she faces tough weeks and months ahead, the love and support she has received will help her adjust to her new life.
“Myself and my family would like to say a massive thank you to everyone for their incredible support of the Go Fund Me page as well as all the wonderful and positive messages of encouragement.
“It has been really overwhelming and so nice to see so much support. It still does not feel real but it will really make a huge difference over the coming months to help with recovery and I am so blessed and humbled for all the kind words and positivity.”
Ms Woods added that she remains positive given the circumstances and that she is “just so thankful to be alive” and to be able to see her family, children and friends.
“The next few months will be tough and no doubt physically and emotionally testing but with the support of my fiancé Victor and all of my family and friends, I will have a wonderful support network who will be able to make the transition home and new normal a little easier and as stress free as possible.”
Gardaí have made an appeal for witnesses to the accident to come forward, and particularly called on anyone with dash cam footage to make it available to them.
