EARAGAIL Arts Festival and David Lyttle have launched a search for the island’s most talented young drummer.
David Lyttle is Ireland’s most celebrated jazz musician today and its only MOBO Award-nominated artist. He has collaborated with visionaries from the jazz and hip hop worlds and his latest album Faces was described by Rolling Stone as one of the best listening experiences you’re likely to have all year.
As artistic director of not-for-profit arts organisation Jazzlife Alliance, David Lyttle has mentored some of the island’s most talented instrumentalists, with several going on to tour with him internationally.
Drummers under 20 in all styles, especially jazz, will be considered for the award, which will also include performances with rising star Irish jazz musicians Micheal and Conor Murray, who received Jazzlife Alliance awards in 2018 and have gone on to perform with David Lyttle internationally, including in South America, Europe and Morocco later this year.
The twin brothers will also feature the award winner at their Falcarragh Winter Jazz Festival, now nearing its third year of presenting iconic international jazz artists.
Earagail Arts Festival will produce an introductory video on the winner which will premiere during its 18-day series of digital events, Srutháin, 9th to 26th July
Applications are now open and will close on Friday, 26th June. For more information visit www.jazzlifealliance.org.
