Michael Murphy has said that while the Training Centre in Convoy is nearing completion it’s still going to take one last big push to see the project through to fruition.
Donegal GAA are currently in the midst of a crucial fund-raising drive. Their bumper house draw is the centrepiece to it all with a number of other superb prizes also up for grabs.
Murphy assures Donegal supporters that they are going to have a base that they can really be proud of when the ribbon is finally cut in Convoy.
“The house draw is a fantastic initiative,” he explained. “There is a great team of people there pushing it. It would make a great Christmas present for anyone out there that loves Donegal GAA.
“The reason behind the draw, number one, is Convoy and the Training Centre. We want to see that through to fruition. We want to be able to call it our home.
“The pitches are already fantastic up there. The participation from schools and development squads is really good at the venue. For senior and Under 20 sides it’s brilliant.
“We’re back now out on the field training and we’re nearly in the dressing rooms. We’re not quite there but we can see the structure and the shape of them. It’s really exciting.
“We’ve had a walk through and we’ve seen the kitchen, the canteen, the video analysis room, the gym and all of that. We’re genuinely excited about the quality and the practicality of the facility.
“And any schools side, club side or underage side coming up to it will be really proud and excited in their surroundings.
“What we need now is a really big push to get the whole thing over the line.”
Murphy is in no doubt that the facility will raise eyebrows and, most importantly, inspire those that walk through its doors.
“People are going to be pleasantly surprised I think by it. “It’s practical, it’s sufficiently big enough. It’s not a monstrosity of a thing where you’re going to get lost in it.
“It can only help to build upon some of the success we’ve had maybe over the last 10 years. It’ll also reinvigorate and inspire for the next 10, 20 years and so on.
“Anyone that buys a ticket, they’re contributing massively to the future of Donegal GAA. And take my word, that is massively appreciated by players, management, everyone.
“To won a house in the middle of Dublin too would be a life changing event for some lucky person.”
And where can the tickets be purchased?
“There are various people around the county selling and there’ll be pop ups now in the lead up to Christmas in the various shopping centres. But the best place is still online and the Donegal GAA website.”
