Gardaí called to polling station

The Donegal News understands gardaí were called to the polling station in Kilmacrennan this morning.
A source told Donegal News that the name of a candidate standing in the Milford Electoral Area had been inscribed in polling booths.
It is understood gardaí were called to the alleged incident shortly after the polling station opened this morning.
A garda spokesperson is remaining tight-lipped about the claim.
“Voting at polling stations today is a ‘live’ policing event. Details of any issues or incidents at polling stations will be available when polling has concluded.”

The local elections will elect 37 members representing seven Local Electoral Areas on Donegal County Council.

As well as voting in the local elections, people are today also casting their votes in the European elections and the Divorce Referendum.
Polling stations opened at 7am this morning and will remain open until 10pm.
