Donegal do enough to see off Fermanagh

Fermanagh 0-9 Donegal 0-15

It wasn’t pretty but Donegal saw off Fermanagh in a tough and physical encounter in Brewster Park today.

It was a defensive battle as expected and Fermanagh kicked the first two points of the match.

It took Donegal 18 minutes to get off the mark before Jamie Brennan scored, and Patrick McBrearty (2) and Leo McLoone added to their tally.

Fermanagh levelled with points from Ryan Jones and Ciaran Corrigan, but Jason McGee’s curling effort left Donegal ahead by a point at the break.

Donegal moved three points ahead at the start of the second half, but Fermanagh didn’t cave in and with 11 minutes to go, there were only two points between the sides.

The visitors moved four ahead after points from Ciaran Thompson and Michael Langan pointed, although Conall Jones did reduce the deficit to three again in the 66th minute.

The Erne county needed a goal and Michael Langan made an important block to deny Daniel Teague.

Patrick McBrearty pushed Donegal four ahead again, and Michael Murphy and Jamie Brennan tagged on points as Bonner’s men got the win they required.

Donegal advance to the semi-finals and they will face Tyrone in Breffni Park on Saturday, June 8.
