GARDAÍ investigating the disappearance of a doctor in Milford have completed their search operation.
The five-day operation at a site in the Milford Garda District concluded today – the same day as the 10th anniversary of the disappearance of Strabane woman, Dr Deirdre O’Flaherty, who disappeared on January 11, 2009 while on holiday in Inishowen with her husband and children.
The family had been staying in a holiday home near Moville when she went missing. It had been assumed that she had drown. The doctor’s car was discovered at a secluded beach at Kinnego Bay.
An Garda Síochána announced on Monday last that they would be commencing a new land and search excavation in the Milford District for the missing woman.
It is believed the new investigation was sparked by a letter sent to gardaí in recent days.
The search was concentrated on remote bogland between Rathmullan and Kerrykeel and had been carried out by the Donegal Divisional Search Team and Garda Technical Bureau along with private contractors.
On Friday, a garda spokesperson said the searches had not provided anything further in the search of the missing mum. They thanked the public for their patience during the operation.
“Unfortunately nothing that furthers the search for Deirdre was located during the search. The site is on private property and remains closed to the public.
“Our thoughts are with her family and friends and it is requested that the privacy of her family is respected at this time.”
Gardaí have renewed their appeal for anyone who may have information in relation to Deirdre’s disappearance to contact Buncrana
Garda Station on 0749320540 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111.
