Limerick 0-2 Finn Harps (Harps win 3-0 on aggregate)
Finn Harps have secured promotion to the Premier Division after defeating Limerick 2-0 tonight at the Markets Field.
Harps led 1-0 from the first leg, and they made sure of a return to the top flight by completing the job in the second match.
It was the last game of Paddy McCourt’s colourful career, but he lasted only 17 minutes before picking up an injury and he had to be replaced by Niall Logue.
Mark Timlin had a great chance for Harps in the 21st minute when he went through on goal, but his effort hit the post, and Shaun Kelly just about diverted the rebound over his own crossbar.
Harps defended well in the opening half, and they then received a huge boost on the stroke of half-time when Timlin found the net wth a powerful left-footed shot.
HT: Limerick 0-0 Harps
Limerick started the second half brightly and Peter Burke pulled off a brilliant save to deny Danny Morrissey.
Harps had a wonderful chance to kill off the contest once and for all in the 65th minute when Nathan Boyle drilled the ball across goal but Mikey Place somehow missed from two yards.
However, Harps did grab their second 15 minutes later when Nathan Boyle drilled low to the net after a super pass from John Kavanagh.
Ollie Horgan’s men closed out the game strongly, and can look forward to a return to the top flight in 2019.
