Lotto luck strikes Donegal again after €500,000 win

LOTTO luck has struck Donegal again after a lucky Letterkenny player won the Euromillions Plus top prize of €500,000 in Friday’s draw.

Residents of Letterkenny have been urged to check their EuroMillions tickets after Friday’s draw produced another EuroMillions Plus top prize winner of €500,000 – the 20th such win in Ireland so far this year.

It’s a case of two in a row for lucky Donegal after the same EuroMillion Plus prize of a half a million euro was sold in nearby Lifford just ten days previously on Tuesday 7thAugust.
This winning Normal Play ticket was sold on Friady at Oldtown Stores in Oldtown in Letterkenny. The Oldtown store in Letterkenny which specialises in hardware, fuel and groceries are celebrating their first big lottery win since they were established in 2013.

The winning EuroMillions Plus numbers are:10, 24, 32, 41, 48

While there was no winner of Fridays €99,896,146 EuroMillions jackpot, another lucky player from Co. Wicklow matched 5 numbers in the main draw to scoop a €34,490 prize. The winning Quick Pick ticket was sold at Dunnes Stores in the Bridgewater Shopping Centre in Arklow, Co. Wicklow.

The EuroMillions jackpot now rolls to an incredible €110 million (estimated) for this Tuesday’s draw.

Ciaran McKenna, owner of Oldtown Stores in Letterkenny said: “I didn’t have a wink of sleep last night with the excitement. The store is only open for the past five years and it’s our first big lottery win. Due to the nature of our business, we get very little passing trade so we are almost certain that the win is local so it will be a great boost for the town. The store is absolutely hopping this morning with well-wishers for the lucky winner. Whoever the winner is, they should know that the whole town is absolutely delighted for them and we hope that they enjoy their new found fortune,” he said.

The National Lottery is now encouraging all of its players in Donegal and Wicklow to check their EuroMillions tickets carefully. A spokesperson said: “While the incredible €99 million EuroMillions jackpot wasn’t won, in excess of 89,000 players in Ireland won prizes including our lucky players in Letterkenny and Arklow who won €500,000 and €34,094 respectively. If you are one of the lucky ticketholders, be sure to sign the back of the ticket and contact our prize claims team on 01 836 4444 and we will make arrangements for you to come to the National Lottery Winner’s Room to get your prize”.
