Young Donegal snooker stars going well on the baize

NW Snooker player Sean Devenney ahead of the weekend final in Carlow

Local Northwest Snooker Club players Sean Devenney and Ronan Whyte were in Carlow at the weekend to compete in the Qualifiers for the world U18 championship later on in the year.
In the last 16 Ronan beat Cian Murtagh 3-0 and Sean beating Sean Paul Crowley 3-1.
Into the quarter finals and Ronan was unlucky to lose 3-2 to Mark Gleeson from Nenagh but Sean beat Ryan McGurik from Meath 3-1. Sean played Mark next and played great snooker to win 3-1 and reach his second final in a row and set up a rematch against Ross Bullman from Cork.
After sharing the first two frames it was Ross in the third who got a bit of luck when he fluked the brown to lead 2-1, Sean made a mistake in the fourth and Ross made 38 from it to lead by 31 with 27 on but he stuck with it and got his snooker and was unlucky trying to pot the yellow he jawed it, again he needed a snooker which he got but Ross potted green and after some safety play potted the brown and blue to win 3-1. This leaves Sean second in the ranking with two events to go and a place at world’s still up for grabs for the the chasing field.

Letterkenny’s Sean Devenney and Ronan Whyte, Ardara, are both members of the North West Snooker Club in Letterkenny.
