The Donegal News Shop Local campaign was launched this week by (from left): Columba Gill, editor, Donegal News, Cllr Michael McBride, Mayor of Letterkenny Municipal District and Gerard Grant, president, Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce.

As a local business, the Donegal News is passionate about the local community we live in. We understand the need to support our local businesses, which in turn will help our local community, our local economy and save jobs and services.

This year, the Donegal News is running its fifth annual campaign that will encourage readers to SHOP LOCAL this Christmas. The campaign aims to increase local business, highlight the importance of supporting the local business community and help preserve local business for generations to come. The campaign will promote all the fantastic shopping, eating, entertainment and business services the county has to offer right on our doorstep. Also to truly illustrate that as shoppers we don’t need to go far a-field to find unique, affordable products and services along with great customer service.

The main features of the campaign are adverts, editorials, vox pops, product page features detailing Christmas gift ideas, which will all run in the Donegal News from today to the start of January 2015.

On top of all of this, the Donegal News will publish a bumper Shop Local this Christmas Shopping Supplement on Friday 5th December.

Additional features include: 17,500 extra readers on top of the normal 40,000, as the supplement will be distributed to 5,000 homes in areas such as Donegal town & Killybegs; Facebook campaign; In paper support from the local business community and politicians; A map showing the position of each and every advertiser and great competitions in the supplement.

Columba Gill, editor of the Donegal News highlighted why ‘shopping local’ is so important to the community:

“With Christmas approaching traders in towns and villages right across the county will be hoping that local people will be putting their money back into the local economy, thus protecting local jobs and encouraging investment. This campaign will help reinforce the genuine need of Donegal businesses and the support required from the local community.”

So the message is – if you want to keep Donegal in business, shop local this Christmas. For more information telephone 07191 21014 and speak to one of our advertising sales advisors.
