“The grant funding of €177,127 through the Leader programme is a substantial amount of money and it will it drive this project to replace the existing unit with a new building.

“I look forward to the launch of the new facility.”

Mr McHugh, Government Chief Whip and Minister for the Irish language, Gaeltacht and the Islands, said: “The current facilities need to be improved. The goal now is to provide a building that will keep the services at the Volt House running, increase membership and retain users.

“It is a vital piece of the social and economic fabric of Raphoe and I know how highly valued it is as a meeting point.”

The Leader programme is funded through Minister Michael Ring’s Department of Rural and Community Development.

Mr McHugh said: “Leader has grown exponentially under Minister Ring and I am grateful again for the focus on Donegal and the difference that it makes.

“Back in June I announced a funding boost of €2.7million for 76 Leader projects in Donegal – the highest in any county.

“It is home to the Family Resource Centre, Donegal Education Training Boards and Raphoe Tidy Towns and it also houses Toddler Groups, Art Group, Woman’s Groups, Bridge Club, and Book Club.

Mr McHugh added: “This money will make a massive difference to the to the people who use Volt House but it will also add to th environment, heritage, economy and community.
