Michael Murphy will captain Donegal in the Ulster Senior Championship for the eighth season in-a-row.

The Glenswilly man was first made senior captain by Jim McGuinness in 2011, and carried on in the role under Rory Gallagher.

Current Donegal manager Declan Bonner said he had no permanent skipper during the league this year, and toyed with the idea of rotating the captaincy. However, he has selected Murphy to lead Donegal out this weekend against Cavan.

Bonner said: “There’s no big secret about it. Hugh McFadden was captain in the National League, but Michael Murphy took over again when he came back. Michael is the captain and Hugh is the vice-captain.”

Donegal defeated Cavan by eight points last Sunday

Sean McVeigh has been one of Donegal's most talented and consistent hurlers for the last decade.

The Referendum on the Eighth Amendment takes place one week from today.
