Harps were under big pressure in the first 45 minutes, and their goalkeeper Ciaran Gallagher was a busy man.

However, the visitors had a fine chance of their own, with Gary Rogers saving well from Sean Houston.

David McMillan had a glorious opportunity for Dundalk on the stroke of half-time, but fired his shot wide, and it was scoreless at half-time.

Dundalk hit the front in the 51st minute when the ball hit off Robbie Benson and went into the net.

Harps felt the should have had a penalty straight from the restart when Sean Gannon brought Houston down in the box, but the referee Ben Connolly waved away Harps’ appeals.

Dundalk grabbed their second goal three minutes later through David McMillian, and the sublime Patrick McEleney and Jamie McGrath added to their tally as the second half progressed.
