Four Donegal youth groups benefit from €50,000 grant

ALMOST €50,000 in capital grant funding for youth projects and organisations, announced this week, will benefit young people in Donegal.
Fine Gael Minister of State Joe McHugh has said that a capital grant of €48,367 for four Local Organisations will be provide a significant boost to local groups.
“The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Katherine Zappone TD has announced capital grants for 86 youth projects and organisations around the country and I am delighted that four local organisations in Donegal are to benefit.
The local group to receive funding are Foroige Donegal – Ballybofey who have been granted €14,964 for works to include the update and replacement of equipment and resources in the youth centre, including IT, electrical, office, games, kitchen and sports equipment. 
Travteen Youth Project in Letterkenny will receive €6,807. It will help them purchase equipment to furnish a new space designed by and for Traveller Youth and other young people in the area including furniture, games and electrical equipment.
Letterkenny Youth Information Centre at Donegal Youth Service on the Port Road are set to receive  €19,403 for the upgrading of furniture, equipment, flooring and lighting. Their centre houses the Letterkenny YIC and Daybreak SPY Project.
The Youth Outreach Project at Donegal Youth Service has also been granted €7,193. This will contribute to the refurbishment of the main hall in the local community centre and the purchase of equipment to include a protective screen and games equipment. 
“Youth projects and organisations such as Foroige, Travteen, Letterkenny YIC and the Youth Outreach Project play a crucial role in supporting young people throughout the country. It is hugely important that the Government continues to acknowledge their work and provide funding so that they can maintain and in some cases expand their services,” said Deputy McHugh.
Welcoming the news, local Fine Gael councillor, Jimmy Kavanagh stated: “This capital grant will really boost the services of these groups and so will be of great benefit to young people here in Letterkenny and indeed across Donegal.
