Donegal adventurer Jason Black has been forced to drop out of the Across Italy Ultra Cycling Marathon.
The Letterkenny endurance athlete was doing superbly well against a very strong field and was 18th at the half-way stage of the incredible 850 km race.
But with 120 kms to go, a physically and emotionally drained Black was forced to dismount.
His back-up team of Boyd Robinson and Michael Black relayed the heartbreaking information to friends and family back home.
However, the crew have vowed to return to do the race again.
A tired and emotional Jason has been inundated with messages of support on social media.
