Down 0-7 Donegal 3-15
Donegal recorded their first away win in Division 1 since 2009, with a facile victory over Down in their NFL opener at Pairc Esler tonight.
Rory Gallagher’s team raced into a 4-1 lead but Down came back into the game and they had an opportunity to go in front when they were awarded a penalty in the 18th minute. However, Donal O’Hare’s spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Peter Boyle.
The visitors finished the half strongly with Michael Murphy in magnificent form from placed balls and they led by six points at the break.
Donegal continued to dominate in the second half and goals from Ryan McHugh and Patrick McBrearty helped them extend their lead out to eleven points by the 43rd minute.
Ryan McHugh grabbed a second goal later in the half as Donegal ran out easy winners.
