Men arrested for ‘diffing’ outside Letterkenny Courthouse over rally weekend

GARDAI have confirmed that two men were arrested for alleged ‘diffing’ in broad daylight last weekend outside Letterkenny Courthouse, and in the middle of the town’s busiest junction.

The men, one from the North and one from the South, were arrested and charged with dangerous driving after a number of incidents during the Donegal Rally on Saturday outside Gallagher’s Hotel.

The latest incident comes one year after a young man immediately became an internet sensation after a video of him performing the dangerous manoeuvre at the same spot was posted on Facebook.

Garda Traffic Inspector, Michael Harrison, told the Donegal News today that some young drivers were “putting it up” to Gardai with their antics on the roads at the weekend.

He also confirmed that a number of young people are to appear before Letterkenny District Court today charged in relation to driving related offences during the rally.

However, Inspector Harrison stressed that those involved in dangerous driving, and driving illegally modified cars, had “no association whatsoever” with the actually rally itself.
“These guys had no interest in the rally and were only out to cause trouble for Gardai and ordinary law abiding members of the public.”

Letterkenny based GP Dr James McDaid said that an ‘awful’ lot of people across Donegal were using benzodiazepines.
