A NEW cross-border bus route between Derry and Buncrana which was launched recently has been hailed as a “great new service for the people of the North West.
Translink ambassador Michael Doran said: “The new service to Buncrana is great for the local community, tourists and day trippers who want to explore the area with great value tickets available, it’s the ‘Smart Move’ to get to Donegal.”
The new Ulsterbus Service 181, operates from Foyle Street bus centre to Buncrana and will give commuters and students more frequent return services for work and study.
The new service has been launched a year after the Lough Swilly Railway Company, the firm behind several long-standing Lough Swilly bus services to Inishowen, was wound up.
It will complement and compete with several other services currently operated by private bus companies including North West Busways and McGonagle Bus and Coach.
The new service will operate between Derry and Buncrana five times daily on weekdays. There will be four services on Saturdays and three on Sundays.
The new bus service will depart from the Causeway Road, Buncrana, stopping at St Mary’s Road, Shorefront, Fahan Rectory, Burnfoot, Bridgend and Coshquin.
