Mark English takes Silver at European Indoor Championships

IAAF World Junior Athletics Championships - Friday 13th July 2012

DONEGAL’S Mark English has won the silver medal in the 800m final in the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Prague, coming in behind winner Marcin Lewandowski from Poland.

English held off the challenge of the Netherlands’ Thijmen Kupers in the closing metres to seal the silver in a time of 1:47.20.

He told RTE Sport he was confident of finishing on the podium in today’s final and his prediction came through after a super run.

English was in sixth position for the majority of the race, but in the final 200m he kicked on and nearly won Gold.

It was a sensational last leg from English and yet another glorious achievement from the Letterkenny athlete.

English has now won Bronze in the European Outdoor Championships and, today, won Silver at the Indoor Championships.
