THE funeral of a young Derry woman who tragically died from a rare form of altitude in Singapore last weekend takes place tomorrow (Friday).
Lisa Orsi (22) of 55 Woodside Heights, Old Strabane Road, was put on a life support system after falling ill at high altitude during a hike in Java where she and her friends were on holiday.
A talented Gaelic footballer, the granddaughter of John and Rosemary Orsi, Ballymagowan, Fanad, was working as a physiotherapist in Singapore for the past year.
The family of the late Ms Orsi announced that their daughter was pronounced dead in Singapore General Hospital in the early hours of last Friday morning (Irish time) following surgery to remove nine organs for donation.
In a statement, the Orsi family said: “Even in this dark hour we can look to take solace from knowing that even in her death Lisa’s generosity has brought new life to others and given them a second chance.
“It would be impossible to thank everyone personally who has helped over the past two weeks. However, as a family, we would like to thank her best friends, Eve King and Sinead McElhinney, the clubs, schools and so many others at home in Ireland for their spontaneous outpouring of love and support. This includes her childhood school, Saint Patrick’s and St Brigid’s College, and Salford University alumni.”
Funeral Mass will take place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception Trench Road, Derry at 12 noon todmorrow. Burial afterwards at Massmount Cemetery, Fanad.
