THE HSE in Donegal has refurbished the catering department at Lifford Community Hospital.
The work was carried out by Joseph McMenamin & Sons Stranorlar. The kitchen works included new hygienic wall and floor finishes, electrical works and a catering equipment upgrade.
This will result in streamlining the work of the catering department, increasing efficiency and will improve overall delivery of this service.
Lifford hospital provides catering for 20 residents, a day centre which is off site, a meals on wheel service to the local community.
It also caters to residents of the Habinteg Housing Association and staff of Lifford hospital.
The kitchen was upgraded to the highest of standards in conjunction with Aoife Gardiner, Senior Environmental Health Officer with the HSE and the Environmental Health Department, Tony Kitterick, HSE Estates Department and Brendan McGowan Catering Manger for the region.
All of the works were approved by John Hayes, Area Manger for Donegal, and Gwen Mooney Service Manager Older people services.
Gwen stated that the Catering Department is ‘finished to a very high standard and complies with all food safety standards, Health and Safety and HIQA requirements’.
The figures, released to Councillor Ciaran Brogan this week, show an increase of 13.3% on the previous year.
