ON FRIDAY, January 17, one of Ireland’s best known pop singers will be the special guest at a monthly singer’s club in West Donegal.

Now running for nearly a year, Clubeo at Leo’s Tavern in Meenaleck, Crolly, has established itself as a firm favourite amongst music lovers.

The event was created by Irish music legend Moya Brennan to create a new platform in West Donegal for both established and aspiring young artists to present their music.
Since the event was launched last March some of Donegal’s finest talent has taken to the Clubeo stage, and some great young talent has availed of the opportunity to show the fantastic music they are writing.

The beauty of this event is that it has attracted singers from not only all around Donegal, but from Tyrone, Monaghan and as far as Dublin.
Moya Brennan is, of course, a stalwart of the Irish music scene and when she invites well-known artists to come perform and pass on some of their own knowledge and experiences, they don’t think twice.

This month’s Clubeo has a very special treat as none other than singer songwriter Brian Kennedy will make a very welcome return to the stage at Leo’s Tavern.
The Belfast native has decades of experience in the music industry, performing with Van Morrison in his early days to establishing himself as a solo artist and one of Ireland’s most successful musical exports.

Brian and Moya have been friends for years and he recorded Clannad’s hit In A Lifetime with them in the past putting his own stamp on the song first made famous by U2’s Bono and Clannad.
Over the years Brian has continued to make special appearances with Clannad, including at their 40th anniversary concerts in Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin, during the Temple Bar TradFest in 2011.

He also recently went on UK tour with Clannad. Brian is no stranger to the Leo’s Tavern stage having shown his support to the Save Our Scenery (SOS) concerts hosted by Moya a few years ago. This is definitely an event that will lift everyone’s spirit during the dark days of January.

Moya Brennan’s Clubeo with Special Guest Brian Kennedy kicks off at 9pm. For updates join Clubeo on Facebook or on Twitter.

THE funeral took place yesterday, Thursday, of Pádraig Duggan, musician, songwriter and founding member of Irish Celtic music pioneers,...

The father of the Clannad musicians has passed away.
