TWO Irish army officers recently paid a visit to Letterkenny Institute of Technology to host a lecture for law students.
Lieutenant Colonel Richard Brennan BL and Captain Gerry Casey were guest lecturers at lyit where they spoke about Conflict to 2nd year law students.
Lt Col Brennan delivered a lecture entitled Law in War: Origin and Destination and Capt Casey spoke on Observing Peace Post-Conflict: A Peacekeeper’s Perspective.
These lectures comprise part of the new Introduction to Conflict Studies module on lyit’s Law with Criminal Justice programme.
Dr Sharon McLaughlin, Assistant Lecturer in Law, who organised the lectures, said: “lyit was indeed privileged to host these distinguished officers.
“Our law students thoroughly enjoyed the stimulating, insightful and thought-provoking lectures delivered by Lt Col Brennan and Capt Casey.
“It’s important to apply theory to practice, and there is no better way to understand and apply conflict theories than to engage with, and learn from, those directly involved in international humanitarian law and peacekeeping.”
